Giving back to our community

Free immunisation, family planning, health and money on the radio, and work with Ibanda’s banks and SACCOs. This is how Ebenezer Clinic gives back.

Why we give back

Like a tree and its leaves

Our founder and Medical Director, Dr Bakahika Leonard Kururagireh, explains it with a tree in his book, Beyond the Stethoscope.

“Every living thing has to give back or it dies. A tree drops its leaves, and the leaves become compost, and the compost feeds the tree that dropped them.”

“A clinic that only takes from its community is a tree that holds on to every leaf. It looks full for a season. Then the soil gives out.”

“…what you give back is what keeps you alive.”

What we give back

Our leaves

Since 2015 we have served Ibanda from Main Street. Alongside everyday care, this is what we give back.

Family planning

Family planning services cost UGX 5,000 per visit, supported by our partnership with Marie Stopes Uganda. In 2025, together with Marie Stopes Uganda, we reached more than 600 women with free reproductive health services.

Health and money on the radio

We run free radio programmes on health and personal finance. Our free two-year campaign on Eiraka Radio in Ibanda taught listeners how to look after their health and their money. It is taking a short break and resumes next year.

When COVID-19 came

We turned our maternity wing into an isolation ward. We admitted more than 70 patients and saw more than 350 as outpatients.

With Ibanda’s banks and SACCOs

We work closely with many banks and SACCOs in Ibanda, especially on their corporate social responsibility activities.

Global goals

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals

Our community work is aligned with three of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

  • SDG3Good health and well-being
  • SDG5Gender equality
  • SDG10Reduced inequalities
